Brodie Alan Steele has been working professionally in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and has more than 300 original productions to his credit. Starting as a scenic artist while still in high school, Brodie apprenticed under renowned Scenic Charge Susan Crabtree for two seasons at Starlight Musicals in Indianapolis, IN. An avid carpenter from a young age, he transitioned his skills toward scenic construction and rigging while teaching himself drafting and design. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatrical Design and Production from Ball State University, where he holds the rare distinction of winning both the 1st place and runner-up regional American College Theatre Festival awards in the same year for his designs of A Streetcar Named Desire and Sweet Charity. He was later honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with the National Design Award for Charity.
In New York, Brodie expanded his experience as both a technician and designer. During his first year, he designed four productions throughout the city, including West Side Story and Sweeney Todd, while broadening his freelance work to include electrics and audio installations. From there, he joined Gateway’s Candlewood Playhouse in Connecticut as Technical Director for its final season, where he also completed the scenic design for The Odd Couple. After touring with Mainstage’s national production of Meet Me In St. Louis, he moved to Gateway Playhouse on Long Island as Resident Scenic Designer and Technical Director, designing and building productions that included Show Boat, 1776, and the first regional production of Titanic.

His next stop was the historic Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, a vaudeville house originally built in 1923. Brodie oversaw the completion of its renovation into a state-of-the-art touring venue and served as Technical Director for its inaugural season, supervising the installation, production, and strike for 127 performances — including Don McLean, Art Garfunkel, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Foreigner, Bernadette Peters, and many others. He then transitioned into corporate productions as Assistant Technical Director for Staging Techniques in New York, overseeing events for clients such as American Express, Christie’s, and Microsoft.

After relocating to California, Brodie spent a season as Master Carpenter at the University of California, Irvine, before taking on the role of Scenic Designer and Technical Director for College of the Canyons. During that time, he played a key role in the design and planning of The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, which opened in October 2004. Over the years, Brodie supervised hundreds of professional productions, tours, and special events, and in 2022, he was promoted to Production and Technical Director for the venue. His original designs at The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center include Rent, Cabaret, A Doll’s House, Little Shop of Horrors, The Glass Menagerie, Death of a Salesman, Bright Star, and Hair, among many others.

In March 2025, Brodie achieved ETCP Certification as a Rigger for both Arena and Theatre, further establishing his expertise in entertainment rigging and venue safety. Building on decades of production and technical experience, he founded SteelePoint Technical Production Consulting and Solutions, LLC, a Virginia-based firm specializing in rigging safety inspections, venue assessments, and consulting in the design, planning, and implementation of theatrical systems — including rigging, lighting, sound, video, and stage safety. Through SteelePoint, he supports performing arts organizations, schools, and venues nationwide with practical, safety-driven technical expertise and production solutions.

Brodie continues to freelance when time allows, completing projects ranging from scenic design and construction of The Who’s Tommy at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood to refurbishing touring scenic elements and supervising rigging and scenic installations throughout the country. When not working, Brodie enjoys traveling, attending concerts and shows, and building custom fine furniture.
